Local medical response teams aid recovery efforts in fire evacuation centers

As the Camp Fire and the Woolsey Fire continue to burn throughout parts of California, evacuation centers have been filled with fire victims escaping the natural disasters. In response, the California Emergency Medical Services Authority has enlisted several volunteer medical response teams across the state to aid recovery efforts in these evacuation centers. One such team consists of five nurses assembled from various sections of the Scripps Health system. These experienced volunteers, who assisted in recovery efforts for Hurricane Katrina, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and the April 2015 Nepal earthquake, will be stationed at a Chico evacuation center for one week. There, they will provide the fire victims with the medical care and emotional support that they need to cope with their ordeal.
